SERVICES

OPROMAMER was started to advocate for the rights of mental health patients in Rwanda. We address issues of health recovery, justice, and education/awareness.

LEGAL ADVICE

For patients who encounter legal problems related to their time in recovery as a mental health patient, OPROMAMER offers advice and counseling. Use the "Contact Us" form to inform us of your situation and we will respond.

AWARNESS and SENSITIZATION

One of the goals of OPROMAMER is to educate the public and raise awareness of mental health issues in the communities so that those who suffer from or recover from mental health issues can find a prosperous place within.

  • Counseling Services and Crisis Intervention on Television and Radio - our 24 week project running from January 2014 to July 2014 in the Gasabo District secondary schools. The goal is to inform students about the issues of mental health, warning of the harm and suffering caused by drug use and violence, and indirectly influencing the level of information of mental health concerns within families. Contact us to learn more or to see how you can participate in this project or future projects.

PATIENT THERAPY

OPROMAMER is dedicated to improving the well-being of patients as they are in the care of professionals at CARAES hospital in Ndera. "Ergotherapie" or Occupational Therapy is the avenue by which patients can explore and develop new skills or participate in enriching activities. A long-term goal is to provide valuable job-training to patients so that they may find themselves participating in communities, providing themselves with income and reversing the stigma associated with mental illness.

  • Soul Therapy Art - we are bringing art therapy to patients at CARAES Hospital in Ndera. The two goals are to provide art therapy that has a positive effect on patient well-being and a long-term goal is to bring in talented craftsmen from the community in order to train patients in arts and crafts production, giving patients a means to support themselves financially.

Enlisting the aid of local Kigali artists and co-operatives is vital to the program - please visit soultherapyart.blogspot.com to find out how you can contribute.
